A bit of history…
The Fat Cats Athletic Club (FCAC) was established in June 2014 as an expansion of the Fat cats organisation’s sports offering, which was originally launched with the Fat Cats Football club in 2003.
The Club is registered with the Central Gauteng Athletics Associations (CGA)
We are a virtual club with runners from all over the country creating a a home for running enthusiasts, irrespective of their location.
The Club is anchored on a strong thread of friendship and family. For more than 10 years, the Fat Cats family has brought together people from different backgrounds and professional disciplines over a game of sport. Despite being a relatively new in the running scene, Fat Cats AC has made great stride and achieved a lot in a short space of time.
Fat Cats AC offers a platform that brings together families and friends to socialise and compete with like-minded athletes, while maintaining a healthy lifestyle
We’ve established the club with a foundation based on key VALUES that bind all its members.
- Mutual respect
- Common Decency
We have grown from 25 members in 2014 to just over 340 members in 2018, of which 45% are female athletes.
We have experienced considerable growth in the last two (2) years from 93 members to 340 members, almost tripling the membership number in 2 years with a percentage growth of just over 250%, making us one of the fastest growing running club in South Africa.
We boast a very competent technical team that drafts weekly training plans for various distances and goals, as well as offer specific advice and coaching for race preparations.
We host monthly training runs for our members and runners at large and through volunteering, we support our members on the side of the road at most major races.
Our vibrant culture has positioned us as the most noticeable club in the running community.
This has been made possible by the pride we take in wearing our club colors and club activities and marketing initiatives.
These initiatives have been mostly driven and funded by our own members through their membership fees and active participation.
We are famously know as the #RedSkippa army and some of our members have represented us at various international races from Maseru and Gaborone to Paris, Tokyo, Berlin, Rome, New York, Dubai, to name a few.
Various television and radio appearance by our members through our 2017 #Lioness campaign have greatly benefited the club in its drive to grow our female athletes Comrades participation from two(2) in 2016 to 47 in 2018
This is why we are FAT CATS and WE RUN THESE STREETS…
